Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) boss old man Francis Atwoli is a wealthy man who does not shy from showing off what he owns as he cohorts with corrupt politicians.
The flashy old man brags of ranches in Kajiado and plush homes at the sea fronts in Kilifi, but what is Atwoli’s source of wealth?
The 72 year old loud politician began working in the late 1960s and credits himself for revolutionizing trade unions in his fight for workers’ plights and improved working conditions.
His job, however, does not convince many that it can be the source of his massive wealth. Atwoli is rumored to be worth billions and amassed most of his wealth during the reign of the late retired president Daniel Moi who looted from public coffers with his cronies.
He dons expensive accessories, designer clothes and he is a lifetime member of KANU, Kenya’s independence political party which is currently led by Senator Gideon Moi.
Atwoli is among public figures who are out to ensure that the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto does not ascend to presidency. He is diehard supporter and financier of Azimio La Umoja coalition, a political outfit that has ODM’s Raila Odinga trailing Ruto in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He is mostly engaged in political activities than his trade union job and is always hosting top ranking politicians in his palatial homes in Kajiado, Kakamega and in Kilifi’s Bofa beach.
Top blogger Cyprian Nyakundi hit out Atwoli over his Bofa beach home which is guarded by the Administration Police officers who have barred the public from using the public beach.

The controversial COTU bos used his political influence to coerce the Kilifi County administration to install a police post in his private property and stop fishermen from accessing the beach.
In February 2022, Human rights Activist Boniface Mwangi also questioned Atwoli’s wealth. Mwangi said that the old man has only worked at the broke Posta Kenya and the labor movement which is not enough to be the source of his vast wealth.

Atwoli enjoys the protection of the current regime and he is against any politician reading from a different script ascending to presidency. He wants another position created for Mr. Kenyatta who will retire after August 9 polls.
