Tragedy has hit Vihiga county
where a building under construction collapsed killing two people and leaving a
score of others injured.
It was not immediately determined what caused the collapse of the much-touted “modern Funeral Home” building by Vihiga Governor H.E.Dr. Wilberforce Ottichilo.

As the 2022 elections draw closer, governors and other leaders across the country are rushing to complete projects that they will use as a campaign tool.
Vihiga County has faced numerous challenges
in the healthcare sector with constant protests by healthcare workers due to delay
in payment of salaries and wages, lack of food in county hospitals, amongst others.
Hon. Ottichilos’ Incompetence as governor has been on great display since assuming office in 2017. Many had hoped that his record as Emuhaya MP, where he was ranked as the top-performing Member of Parliament countrywide would be replicated at the county level, and they were wrong.
His aloof approach and out-of-touch persona to basic issues affecting Vihiga residents have made Ottichilo be a victim of social media bashing. Many believe that the governor can no longer use his predecessor H.E. Moses Akaranga’s record as an excuse for his incompetence. In fact, he is on record admitting that being a governor is such a hard job as compared to a member of parliament.
By his own admission, there are reasons to believe that Governor Ottichilo has no capacity to handle the duties of a governor, “ameshindwa na Kazi” and there is no valid reason to reelect him for a second term.
For a project, whose tender advertisement was in January, it makes no sense to expect it to be completed by May. Following many things that have gone wrong under Ottichilos watch, it’s no surprise that many candidates have declared interest in the Vihiga gubernatorial race.
It is believed that Ottichilos most feared competition comes from his own deputy Dr. Patrick Saisi, a former UNDP development economist who has fallen out with the governor. Sources tell Kenyan Report, everything that has gone wrong in Vihiga county under Ottichilo is because he has chosen to ignore the advice of his own deputy governor, including the construction of the now-collapsed building; the plight of the healthcare workers championed by Deputy Governor Dr. Saisi among many others.
Dr. Saisi down to earth and approachable mien, his understanding of what ails Vihiga and his background as a development economist make him the best person to replace Ottichilo as the next Vihiga governor.
Vihiga cannot afford another 5 more years of incompetence under governor Ottichilo. No more lives should be lost in Vihiga due to rushed decisions. If incompetence is what led to Emuhaya member of parliament, Hon. Omboko Milemba to say ” Obwami Bulindwe” while talking to his Banyore people, then it’s time we examine what kind of leaders we elect to office. We cannot elect incompetent people and claim to protect them while hiding behind “obwami Bulindwe” . If that was the case, the Maragoli people would have reelected Hon.Akaranga with the same ” obwami bulindwe” Mentality in 2017.
