Transport CS Macharia maintains Gire must be punished

Transport Secretary James Macharia has emphasized that the KQ employee who is serving suspension for filming a Chinese Airline must receive more punished.

While appearing before the health committee on Wednesday, Macharia said Gire Ali was not a ‘whistleblower’ as percieved by the public but a man who committed an illegality by secretly filming a security facility.

“I want to clarify two things here. He was not a whistleblower, that is a wrong definition of that gentleman. He committed an illegality,” CS Macharia said.

The minister further claimed that the China Southern airlines arrived in the morning at 7am and therefore there was nothing secret about it to film.

“You can’t whistle blow about a Boeing that arrived in the morning? It was not arriving at night in secrete, we all could see it,” he added.

Macharia  said that under aviation rules, such a  big plane cannot secretly land in any airport.

High Court Judge Weldon Korir had on Monday barred the DPP and DCI from arresting and prosecuting Gire over alleged criminal charges of terrorism.

According to the court documents, the charges arose out of an alleged act of video recording of China Southern Airline at JKIA on February 26.

Gire who works an assistant security agent at KQ, witnessed the landing of the said plane which  remains contrary to communications by the national airline that the flights from china had been suspended from landing in the country due to the outbreak of coronavirus which has its epicenter in Wuhan Province, China.
