Trouble in Musalia Mudavadi’s House

Former Vihiga county secretary Francis Ominde has received political boost after he was elected as Federal Party of Kenya party leader.

Ominde was elected as the FPK party leader by the party’s national executive committee on January 17 2022, and approved by party secretary general Kennedy Oluoch.

Ominde left the office as Vihiga county secretary after differing with Governor Wilbur Ottichilo before venturing into politics setting his eyes on Vihiga gubernatorial seat.

Trouble in Musalia Mudavadi’s House Ominde who is eyeing Vihiga county gubernatorial seat to unseat Ottichilo takes the position of the FPK party leader from Andrew Kutitila who moved to Dap. Ominde moving to FPK has shocked his opponents in the ODM party who were waiting in the wings to frustrate him in the nominations. It is said many thought his journey to the gubernatorial seat would end at ODM nomination where Ottichilo had already been endorsed and assured ticket.

FPK is likely to attract many aspirants if Azimio la Umoja of Raila Odinga, ANC of Musalia Mudavadi and UDA of William Ruto fail to handle their nominations in free and fair manners. Word has it that in Vihiga many aspirants have hinted to joining Ominde in case ANC, UDA and Azimio frustrate them in nominations.

They say if ANC party leader Mudavadi agrees with Ruto UDA not to field candidates in ANC strong holds, then the rescue boat will be FPK. The political union between Mudavadi and Ruto has forced many aspirants to go back to the drawing board in Vihiga county as the duo traverse the country. In Vihiga county, FPK has one MCA, Eric Odei of Gisambai ward.

In 2013 Hamisi MP Charles Gimose won his seat on FPK before moving to Ford-Kenya. Ominde, a silent mobiliser and well-resourced will face Ottichilo of ODM, Moses Akaranga of PPK, Alfred Agoi of ANC and Senator George Khaniri who has not yet declared his party. But many say Khaniri is likely to vie on UDP of Cyrus Jirongo
