Two MKU students among beneficiaries of MbeleNaBiz Competition – KBC

Two Mount Kenya University students are among 750 young entrepreneurs awarded grants and seed capital under the MbeleNaBiz Competition.

The MbeleNaBiz Competition which was organized by the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs under the Kenya Youth Enterprise and Opportunities Project seeks to help youth-run enterprises and expand their solutions.

Mwanza Christopher Arunga a Bachelor of Education(Arts) student won Ksh 3.6M to set an animal feeds processing plant in Kakamega County while Kangethe Sylvia Wanjiku, a procurement student won Ksh 900,000 for a chocolate making business in Muranga County.

The two students received the call of proposal from Mount Kenya University office of the Director, Career and Alumni Services in March 2020 and proceeded to submit their ideas to MbelenaBiz Competition.

Innovation and Youth Affairs under the Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project had 11,000 entries from which the 750 winners were chosen.

Mount Kenya University supports Entrepreneurial Alumni through Graduate Enterprise Academy (GEA) which is a business incubation initiative where MKU trains graduates on starting and running successful businesses.

In addition to GEA, Mount Kenya University also trains its’ students on entrepreneurship through Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion (STEP) Program which equips them with action based knowledge on instructions to do things to be successful in entrepreneurship
