Two thieves arrested and 81 phones recovered in Kisumu

Police in Kisumu have arrested two suspects for burglary and recovered 81 assorted mobile phones. Daniel Chimota 28, and Samuel Yassin 27, were cornered at a guest house within the CBD of the Lakeside City on Monday night.

County police commander Ranson Lolmodooni said the two suspects who hail from the neighbouring Kakamega had booked a room at the guest house on Monday at 9 pm but later broke into a shop (Kenshop Limited) located along Oginga Odinga Street where they stole the phones.

“The two suspects were arrested following a report by the JRS Security control room of a continuing crime being committed,” Lolmodooni said.

He further clarified that the officers in patrol who were tipped of the burglary and responded promptly by cordoning the entire place.

“They established that the breaking had been done from the guest house,” Lolmodooni said.

The guest house was just adjacent to the shop the two suspects had broken into. A search was then done at the guest house where the suspects were arrested  in room 301.

“We expect to take them to court today. They will be charged with burglary and stealing,” Lolmodooni said.

They broke through the shops backdoor and stole 81 mobile phones who value had not been established by police at the time of arrest.

The police said the arrest and recovery of the 81 phones was a breakthrough in combating cases of shop breaking within Kisumu CBD.
