The government yesterday announced an extension of quarantine for Kenyans that had come to the country over 12 days ago due to what it termed as ‘breaking of rules’.
The govt accused some quarantined people in an undisclosed facility of holding parties thereby increasing cross-infections.
In a video recorded yesterday (4th April 2020) and sent to KenyanBulletin.com, a lady at the Lenana Quarantine facility has documented the squalid conditions the quarantine facility is at.
In the video, she moves around the compound, showing the uncollected garbage, poorly lit rooms that they are using.
She states that they are only given two masks opposed to being given one daily.
There’s also the issue of lack of water, lack of soap and dirty corridors.
“We don’t have water sometimes, we lack soap, we don’t have mask, they came sometime last week, they gave us 2 masks each. We are supposed to stay here like to weeks.”, the lady said
A mattress used by one person who tested positive for coronavirus remains untouched days after she was taken away.
The video raises serious issues with the government’s willingness and seriousness in combating the virus.
For example, people are supposed to wash their hands more often, yet the premises lack water for long.
In March 29th 2020, the govt through its spokesman Rtd Col Cyrus Oguna agreed that there was a problem at the Lenana School and that the place would be fumigated soon.
People are now asking if the govt is quarantining people so that they can get sick.
The lady in the video says that when they were tested some people were confirmed positive but the govt has lied that they have been taken to a treatment facility.
“We were tested and the results came in on Thursday…some lady tested positive, we were told to wear masks, which we don’t have by the way. Infected people who tested positive on Sunday are still with us a (i) speak…the govt is lying that they took people to isolation, No, they are still here, and they are extending days to 14 more days…”, the lady said.
