Waititu’s Cars Impounded

Months after he was impeached, woes continue to befall ousted Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu aka Baba Yao. In his most recent tribulations, Baba Yao’s vehicles have now allegedly all been impounded after he failed to explain how he acquired them in the course of the 2 years immediately he was elected Governor.

The vehicles include a Toyota V8S, Mercedes-Benz, Prados, Range Rovers, Tractors, Tippers, Transport Lorries, Petroleum Tankers, & Trailers.

The impeached Governor was ousted out of office for engaging in corrupt dealings, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.

The Governor was accused of violating the public procurement rules and conflict of interest after it emerged that tenders in the county were awarded to companies owned by relatives

In May 2019, Waititu had been summoned by the Senate County Public Accounts and Investments Committee to explain some financial allocations which the audit report unearthed. Some of them included allocations for coordination of State House functions, South Sudan Peace, free primary education, and payments of retired presidents.

In September, Waititu was barred from his office by Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi after he was arraigned alongside his wife for corruption. Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari had been charged with six counts revolving around an alleged irregular procurement of a Sh588 million tender awarded to a company in the county.
