A section of Wajir County Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly have told off Council of Governors that is planning to challenge Mohammed Abdi’s removal to respect the decision of the Senate, county assembly and cries of the residents.

Addressing a press conference, Eldas MP Adan Keynan and newly sworn governor Ahmed Muktar dismissed claims of political power play and wich-hunt in the impeachment of the former governor.

“Abdi’s ouster was driven by alleged lack of development and services to the residents by the ex-governors administration,” they said.

Muktar said the county government headed by Abdi suppressed development with residents crying for basic services including the crucial health services.

“There have been very many serious issues in Wajir. Hospitals were closed. Health workers were not at work. We faced some very small issues that any county government can handle,” Muktar said.

Muktar appealed to the former governor to come on board as a citizen of the county and help them to deliver to the people of Wajir.

The leaders vowed to support the newly installed governor.

“Mine is not to play politics but to deliver services that had stalled. Now even hospitals are open,”  said Muktar.

The Council of Governors, last week disparaged how senators handled the impeachment motion against Abdi.

Speaking in Mombasa, chairman Martin Wambora said the impeachment process was in violation of court orders that barred both the County Assembly and the Senate from debating the impeachment motion.

“The Senate has lowered the threshold for impeachment of a Governor and this largely exposes the Counties to political upheavals,” Wambora said.

He termed the impeachment process to be “political witch hunt” saying it was the reason why the Deputy Governor was hurriedly sworn in.

“The hurried manner within which the swearing in process was undertaken did not take into consideration the provisions of the Assumption of the Office of the Governor Act,” he said.
