The row between Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku of ODM and MCAs allied to UDA is likely to lead to his impeachment.
Bitter MCAs on Valentine’s Day walked out of the assembly chambers during the governor’s address.
Ole Lenku was seen sweating profusely and removed a white handkerchief as MCAs bayed for his blood due to the allegedly unfair distribution of bursaries and unfulfilled pledges he made.
The MCAs in UDA want to impeach him on grounds of being sidelined in the bursary committee. The governor is accused of working with MCAs allied with Azimio.
His discrimination is evident in the manner he issued the county bursary as those who supported him were allocated huge amounts in the Sh150 million kitty supposed to be equally distributed among the 25 wards. Each ward is to get Sh1.5 million but ODM representatives are getting more.
John Loisa, the majority leader, is planning the impeachment with powerful forces at the State House backing it.
Lenku claims the MCAs are out to blackmail him. UDA has majority of elected and nominated MCAs.
They also hold the speaker, deputy speaker, and majority whip positions.
That the governor is being held hostage by MCAs is no secret as three CEC positions remain vacant after the assembly rejected Lenku’s nominees.
To complicate matters, MCAs’ move to vet afresh ministers who were in Lenku’s first government failed.
During the Kajiado county assembly speaker battle, two camps emerged after a number of candidates failed to return their application papers.
A plot to make Kajiado a UDA zone by 2027 is now on.
Johnson Osoi had served as the speaker of the assembly for two consecutive terms.
The assembly has 16 female nominated MCAs after no woman was elected as MCA.
Ole Lenku got 117,600 votes to defeat Metito who got 111,725 votes.
Joseph Nkedienye of Jubilee was third with 75,335 votes. Metito went to court to petition the defeat but dropped the case.
