Why Nyakach MP attacked his ‘Wash Wash’ rival during Koome vetting

The outspoken Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma Owuor expressed his concerns over ‘Wash Wash’ and gold scamming menace during the vetting of Japhet Koome, the nominee for the position of the Inspector General of Police.

Owuor’s gesture was an attack on his fierce rival in the recently held general elections where he faced Jonathan Okoth Opande, a renowned wash wash guy and gold scammer in the Nyakach parliamentary race.

While speaking before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations, the Raila Odinga allied politician demanded to Mr. Koome to explain how he will crash the Wash Wash network in case he is approved as the next police boss.

Hon. Owuor wants the incoming IG to crash his moneyed rivals including Mr. Opande who was arrested in 2019 and charged in court for obtaining Ksh.25.7 million by falsely pretending that he could sell 250 kilograms of gold.

Opande  poised as a businessman and conned one Samuel Olaleye in exchange for 250 kilograms of gold in a deal that was sketched at Lagos hotel in Nairobi between January 19 and February 18, 2019, where he presented a gold trading company to the Nigerian as he pretended to be one of the directors.

The former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i raised a red flag on characters like Opande ahead of the last general elections when he pointed out that ‘Wash Wash’ Lords and scammer were tainting Kenyan politics.

Matiang’i warned that the Kenyan parliament would be turned into a den of characters with questionable integrity since the country has not implemented campaign funding laws.

Scammer Opande ran for the Nyakach seat while still implicated in the Sh 25 million law suit and for defrauding a South African national a whooping Sh. 13 million.

The equally controversial politician who is also allied to the outgoing Luo Kingpin Raila Odinga, ditched the ODM party on claims that his victory was stolen during the nomination in favour of Owuor and went ahead to contest as an Independent candidate.

It is Hon. Owuor’s wish the if approved as the next IG, Mr. Koome should crash the networks of his rivals like Opande before they resurface again in 2027 and buy the electorate with their dirty money.
