3 people die, several others injured in a road accident – Kenyan_Report

Three people died while five others left injured in a road accident that took place along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

The incident occurred on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Kibarani area along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway when a matatu crashed into a concrete barrier along the road before colliding with the lorry.

The accident was confirmed by the Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer of Coastal Region, Peter Maina.

“Today, around 7.30 a.m, a 14-seater matatu from Makupa lost control and rolled onto the other side of the road and into oncoming traffic, colliding with a lorry, a canter, and we lost three people,” Maina stated.



Five people who were injured in
the crash were rushed to the hospital.

As at the time of publishing, rescue efforts were ongoing
with the authorities clearing the road.

“We do not know the cause of
the accident; investigations are ongoing, and we will be able to provide more
information as soon as we know,” the officer added.

There was heavy traffic on the dual carriage road with
the lane where the accident occurred completely inaccessible. 

Weeks prior, at least 15 people died in a road crash on
the Malindi-Mombasa Highway. The crash involved a Muhsin bus and a Sabaki T
Shuttle at Kwa Shume near Kizingo, in Kilifi County.

The bus was heading to Garissa from Mombasa when it collided with the shuttle that was traveling towards the Mombasa area at Gede area near Malindi. 

Among the fatalities were six members of the Kilifi county
government staff. Responding to the accident, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi
stated that the county hospitals had marshalled all their personnel and
resources to effectively respond to the tragedy and ensure those who were
injured get the interventions they needed.

According to NTSA statistics, there was an increase of 9.4%
of the fatalities on the road compared to last year.
