Lobby group pushing for Waititu ouster

The embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu seems to be sinking deeper into more problems as a lobby kicks a push to have him kicked out of the governorship.

Waititu was barred from getting to his office after he was accused of misappropriating county funds and abusing his office. On Sunday, he was kicked out of the VIP section during Mashujaa Day Celebrations.

The movement dubbed ”Okoa Kiambu”, is seeking to collect the signatures which will eventually lead to a petition to kick-out the governor if it sails through in the county assembly.

The lobby’s coordinator Mr Hoswell Kinuthia stated that their move is informed by the court decision to bar Waititu from office due to corruption case levelled against him.

Kinuthia claimed the governor had allegedly failed in Chapter 6 of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity ACT the moment he was charged in court with corruption.

He added the continued absence of the governor is slowing service delivery. Some services are being grounded and some are coming to a complete halt.

Kinuthia said the lobby is aiming to collect 200,000 signatures in all the 60 wards in the county after which the petition will be taken to the  county assembly for debate.
