Police in Busia are holding four suspects, including one woman, in connection to the murder of six people at Masebula village in Butula constituency during a burial ceremony.
Busia county Commissioner Jacob Narengo said the four are helping police with investigations to arrest other suspects who were involved in the killings.
“As at yesterday, we were able to arrest four people who will help the police with investigations before they are taken to court,” he said.
Speaking to the press at Busia Police Station, Narengo urged the public to cooperate with police by giving information about suspects who killed the six on Friday last week during the burial of businessman Johannes Okoth.
He at the same time said police have managed to contain the upsurge of robbery cases in the county.
“We are zeroing in on the key suspects and I want to assure residents that we will soon apprehend them,” he said and warned the perpetrators that their days were numbered.
The administrator also urged residents to report to security agents visitors who may be acting in a suspicious manner for police action, instead of taking the law into their own hands.
The commissioner, who was accompanied by Busia county police Commander John Nyoike, said the government will use all resources to ensure the suspects who committed the heinous act are brought to book.
All the deceased, from Siaya county, had been hired to provide security during the burial of the businessman.
The bouncers, who were in black suits, were attacked by a mob after they declined to identity themselves to the locals and Nyumba Kumi vigilante group.
Their bodies were taken to Busia county referral hospital mortuary. Meanwhile, Ahero MCA Ken Ooko condemned the murder of the bouncers and urged police to carry out investigations and arrest the perpetrators.
“We will offer support to their families and ensure the deceased are given a good send-off as we await reports from the police,” he added.
