The cold murder of a chief and his assistant in Lamu County was orchestrated by Al-shabaab militants.
A suspect who had been arrested and charged with being a member of Al-Shabaab terror group has been identified as one of the two people who killed the local administrators in Mbwajumwali village.
Chief Mohamed Haji Famau and his assistant Malik Athman Shee were hacked to death on Wednesday 11 this month.
The two suspects who were reportedly dressed in bui buis, slashed the two administrators after storming into their offices armed with machetes and blunt objects.
A police brief reveales that one of the killers is terror suspect is a a brown skinny guy known as Kassim Ahmed Ali.
“Kassim was positively identified by the public as one of the attackers who carried out the gruesome hacking of the two local administrators,” reads part of the police report.
The police have launched a manhunt for Mr Ali who is believed to have already crossed the border back into Somalia through the ‘porous’ sections near Mbwajumwali village.
Members of the public who may have information on Ali have been urged to report to any nearest police.
The suspect had earlier been arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) in March 2016 while he was allegedly travelling to Libya to join another terror group, Isis.
He was arrested in the company of three other terror suspects at Bumala Police roadblock in Busia County. Police reports revealed that the four were attempting to illegally cross into Uganda before they could travel to Sudan and then finally to Libya.
Ali and his acomplices were later moved to Mombasa where they were charged with being members of Al-Shabaab terror group.
He was also charged with being in possession of chemicals used to improvise explosives. He was also in possession of two rifles and 37 rounds of ammunition among other terror related charges.
When arraigned before court, the suspect claimed that police apprehended him after hearing his name and the fact that he hails from Lamu, the police concluded that he was a member of Al shabaab.
