Al shabaab militants raid a construction site in Mandera, destroys equipment

Al-Shabaab insurgents stormed a construction site in Mandera near the border with Somalia and burnt down four construction equipment in their latest incursion into Kenya.
The equipment destroyed include, an excavator, flat roller machine, shift foot roller and a pressure pumps.

No casualties were reported during after the incident on the Mandera-Arabia-Lafey road as the two guards who were on duty escaped on foot.

The construction had stalled for along time and was not clear what motivated the Sunday dawn raid.
North Eastern Regional Commissioner Mohamed Birik said that the security agents have launched investigations into the incident and the suspects will be brought to book.
“We are yet to know the motive of the incident and the equipment is valued at about Sh38 million,” Birik said.

Al shabaab militants have in been roaming in the area causing destruction and terrorizing locals. There have been suspicions that some locals could be aiding the incidents.

Earlier in the month a gang targeted and attacked non locals who were in a bus in Wajir that was headed for Mandera. The victims were non locals who flushed out of the bus and shot at close range.

Police have since apprehended eight suspects in Kenya for allegedly facilitating the attack and killing of the innocent Kenyans who were travelling in a Medina bus.
