Algeria cements Kenya’s bid for UNSC seat

Algeria has promised her support for Kenya’s bid to hold the non-permanent seat at the United Nation’s Security Council in elections scheduled for June 2020.
The new Algerian envoy to Kenya Selma Malika Haddadi expressed her country’s confidence that Kenya is best placed to advance the interests of African countries at the UNSC.
She was speaking at the State House when she presented her credentials to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday. Also present was Bangladeshi’s incoming High Commissioner Jahangir Kabir and non-resident High Commissioner Verna Mills representing the dual Islands of St. Kitts and Nevis who will reside in Havana, Cuba.
African countries that have held the seat before include Algeria, South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia.
Kenyatta stated that he is looking to work closely with these countries to strengthen ties between their countries and Kenya.
He also promised the envoys of his full support to ensure that they succeed in their duties in the country.
The new Bangladeshi envoy Kabir lauded the warm bilateral relations between his country and Kenya and vowed to use his stint to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Dhaka and Nairobi.
High Commissioner Mills on her part as the first envoy to represent the dual Islands of St. Kitts and Nevis said that the presentation of her credentials marked the beginning of a new era between her country and the entire Sub-Sahara region of Africa.
