Coronavirus: Is China Mistreating Students From Africa?

Multiple social media posts claim China is mistreating students and people of black race following the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Though China’s coronavirus threat has waned, many sources point to fears of a resurgence in infections from people who are coming to the country again.

The students from various African counties have braved the months of lockdown and are not in any way a threat, that foreigners coming from Europe, but Chinese racism doesn’t understand that.

KenyanBulletin.com notes that international media has been painting the situtation of the disease in Africa badly and with so much misinformation, many people cannot know that Africa has the lowest cases and death from coronavirus compared to USA, Spain, Italy and ASIA as a whole.

One Twitter user wrote:

China Communist Party (CCP) is being blamed for the attack on African students living in the country.

“Africans being CHASED out of their own apartments and places of residence in China as “carriers” of the Chinese virus with African community leaders “pleading” for this to end. Pay these bigots back in our lands it’s as simple as that. Who is to blame for CHINESE VIRUS #CCPVirus”, another Twitter user wrote.

Racism

Recently, online publications revealed that French doctors are calling for the World Health Organisation (WHO) to conduct vaccine tests in Africa. This was met with criticism and resistance online. WHO has also assured African countries that the vaccine will not be tried on Africans.

The xenophobia in China is getting worse by day. A few weeks ago a racist hashtag trended by Chinese on Twitter calling blacks monkeys and that they should all be deported.

Misinformation has not done any to help the situation.

Africa has the lowest rates of the disease.

According to CGTN, the rumours are irresponsible and false.
