Corrupt KURA director rinsing money in Wanga campaigns

Controversial Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KURA) director Mr. Wilfred Oginga who is part of a dreaded looting cartel is in the spotlight over his involvement in Homa-Bay gubernatorial politics.

Oginga is laundering multimillion shillings looted from the State owned agency as he pretends to fund HomaBay women representative Glady Wanga’s campaigns.

Disgruntled contractors and KURA insiders have called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe Oginga’s political engagements and abuse of office by serving political and selfish interests.

The revelations of Oginga’s looting and money laundering activities come after he was exposed for irregularly dishing out road tenders to companies associated with Wanga as part of their dubious schemes to fund her campaigns.

Wanga who is running on ODM ticket to succeed the outgoing governor Cyprian Awiti is facing a tight competition from former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero who running for the seat as an Independent ticket.

Dr. Kidero opted to run as an Independent candidate after the ODM party boss cancelled nominations and gifted Wanga with a direct ticket over other aspirants.

Many voters in Homa-Bay county were angered by the ODM move to impose candidates on the people.  Even the ODM National chairman John Mbadi protested Raila Odinga’s move as he called on the voters to shun the party and make wiser decisions.

But Oginga is also behind other dubious operations which channel money to ODM political activities including the Adiedo-Otaro-Wagwe (sh25 million) tender which was awarded without any adherence to procurement laws.

They payment process was fast tracked when other local contractors whose pending bills amounting to over sh600 million were still kept in the waiting list. Junior officials at KURA describe Mr. Oginga as an arrogant and egocentric colleague who makes decisions alone.

Oginga is the man behind the tainted image of KURA which has reduced the giant State agency to a corruption zone where he plans and executes all his looting schemes.

Wanga who is a beneficiary of the proceeds of corruption is a close ally of the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga who is promising to fight corruption and carry on with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s policies.

The outgoing president’s poor policies have led to reckless borrowing and squandering of public funds by corrupt officials like the KURA director.
