COVID-19: 134 more people test positive, confirmed cases now at 2,474

COVID-19: 134 more people test positive, confirmed cases now at 2,474

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi on Friday, June 5, announced that 134 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,474.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, the CAS indicated that 3177 samples had been tested during the same period, bringing the total samples tested in the country to 90,875.

Out of the 134, 131 are Kenyans while the three others are foreign nationals.

51 more individuals were discharged bringing the total number of those who have recovered to 643.

At the same time, one more patient died, bringing the total number of fatalities to 79.

In terms of case distribution, counties recorded the following; Mombasa (67), Nairobi (31), Busia (15), Machakos (5), Taita-Taveta (4), Kilifi (2), Nakuru (2) with one case each in Garissa, Murang’a, Kisumu, Uasin-Gishu and Kajiado counties.

Kibra recorded the highest number of cases with 19 in Nairobi, followed by Westlands (7), Madaraka (3), Ruaraka, Kasarani and Embakasi South produced a case each.

In Mombasa, the distribution was as follows; Kisauni (25), Jomvu (12), Changamwe (10), Mvita (10) and Likoni (1).

All cases recorded in Busia were among truck drivers at the Kenya-Uganda border point while the five cases in Machakos were recorded in Athi River.

In addition, 98 of the patients are male and 36 are female while the youngest is 6 years old and the oldest is 70.

Mwangangi further insisted that Kenyans should wash hands regularly, maintain social distancing and wear their masks so as to combat the virus.
