Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has issued a warning message to Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu not to consider opening a parallel office while the case against him is ongoing.
Haji said he was aware and his officers were closely watching Waititu after the besieged Governor promised to return to office soon.
The DPP said the bail terms required Waititu to not only keep off the physical Kiambu Governor’s office, but also the roles and responsibilities that come with the office.
Haji extended the warning to Samburu Governor Moses Lelolkulal who is also out of office while a corruption case against him is ongoing.
“I am aware of the Senate’s decision action to defy court orders to direct Governor Waititu to open a parallel office while aware of the High Court’s decision barring him from office. This office shall be vigilant and such atrocious acts will not go unpunished.”
“I am warning Governor Waititu and the Governor of Samburu not to breach the terms of their bail terms. We shall arrest them if they do,” the DPP said.
Haji made the warning while announcing a warrant of arrest against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko over corruption-related offences.
