Dr. Joseph Birundu Mogendi has resigned from the board of Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) where he was a member.
In a letter dated November 18, Mogendi attributed his resignation to the Fund’s inability to serve or meet the demands of the youth.
“As currently constituted, the Youth Enterprise Development Fund board leadership is deficiently objective and prejudiced to serve the youth of this great country,” his letter read.
Mogendi addressed his letter to the ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, copied to ICT PS Jerome Ochieng’, Youth Fund Chairman Ronald Osumba and CEO.
“I, therefore, tender my resignation as a member of the board and thank the appointing authority for this opportunity”. it read further.
The former board member was among the three scholars from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology who were appointed to boards of state corporations to serve for three years from October 16, 2019.
Mongendi was appointed together with Prof. Losenge Turoop, who appointed to chair the Uwezo Fund Oversight Board.
Youth Enterprise Development Fund was created to reduce unemployment by funding young entrepreneurs, providing training in business skills and linking young entrepreneurs to various markets.
The Fund has instead been marred with massive looting, favoritism and in the end it only enriches the old and selected youths.
In 2018 seven officials of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) were sent home to pave way for investigations after they looted over Ksh.10 million meant for the youth.
