Police in Kisii County have this morning raided the hotel room where ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna spent the night a few minutes to the commencement of the Bonchari by-elections.

Speaking on the same shortly after the happenings, Sifuna stated that he sneaked through the back exit before being entrapped into the building.

Sifuna took a different escape route, after the officers forced their way into the Ufanisi resort where they had spent the night in the executive wing awaiting to oversee the mini polls scheduled for today.

“I sneaked through the back door before they trapped us inside the hotel. Bosire (ODM’s National Treasure Timothy Bosire) is still stranded inside,” Sifuna lamented.

The party through its social media page also confirmed that Sifuna and Bosire spent the night on the executive wing in preparation to oversee the elections.

The party’s candidate and former KPC boss engineer Pavel Oimeke is battling out with former legislator Zebedeo Opore of Jubilee and UDA’s Teresa Bitutu widow to their deceased legislator John Oroo.

Sifuna faulted the government for turning the by -elections in favor of the Jubilee party candidate Zebedeo Opore, an ally of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i through intimidation.

“The government is attempting to intimidate us but we ask our voters to turn up and vote for our candidate. They (voters) are our voices and representatives,” Sifuna rallied ODM’s followers.

It is the first time the two handshake parties are fielding rival candidates in a race since March 2018 when the handshake was conceived, and marks an acid test for the union.

ODM had already accused the government of plans to manipulate the results after governor Ongwae’s home had been raided by the police, accusing him of hosting ilegall dinner at his home.

This is after the governor met the area politicians Sam Ongeri, Janet Ong’era, and Pamella Odhiambo, in what was declared an ilegal meeting.

“I am calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta to put a stop to this, elections come and go. Leaders are all transitory. Democratic institutions must be respected. 50 officers can’t storm my house as if I am a wanted criminal,” Ongwae complained.
