Family recalls last moments of slain AP officer Daniel Etyang

A family member of the late Daniel Etyang, the AP officer killed by Flying Squad officers alongside a taxi driver, has refuted the claims that his brother was a criminal as it is alleged by the authorities.

Speaking to a popular median house via phone, one of the brothers to Etyang vehemently denied claims that the officer was a dangerous criminal, narrating the deceased’s last minutes.

On an ill-fated day, the officer is said to have arrived home duty and moments later, he requested for a taxi to take care of personal issues.

It is on the same day that he proceeded to Ruaka area, Kiambu, for an unknown reason and was later shot dead 12 twice on suspicion of planning to commit a crime.

“I can assure you that my brother wasn’t a criminal and we are suspecting a foul play in all this game, we have visited his premises at Kasarani where he used to stay and the gateman told us that Mr. Daniel was in the house and later requested the uber.

“We are privy to information that along the way, the car was flagged down and two unidentified men got inside. Who are these people? We can’t believe the narration that they escaped with the bullet injuries,” his brother stated.

He further revealed that the late officer was deployed at Uhuru’s camp along the Mbagathi way and had served several notable dignitaries among them former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, former Kajiado boss Joseph Nkedianye, and recently Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) CEO Dr. Jonah Manjari.

Daniel has been in the service for the last 12 years and left a wife and one child.

“My brother was shot 12 times the same years he had served in the forces, what a coincidence? We suspect gameplay here, all we need as a family is justice not only for the family but to his friend too, my brother was very humble and committed to his duties as well to his bosses,” he added.

The family suspects the heinous murder could be a result of conflicts at his workplace or with those he has served under.

Taking to social media to defend the officer, Kabogo said that those who perpetrated the crime must face the law noting that the late Daniel Etiang worked as his aide for four years before he was deployed to work under elsewhere.

“The late Etiang was my assistant for 4 yrs, thereafter worked with the MD KEMSA. I can swear he was not a robber that’s BS, cold-blooded murder. The killers should face the full force of the law,” wrote Kabogo.

Initial reports by the police claim that Etyang and the driver were planning to commit crime at Ruaka Court Yard though they didn’t specify the crime.

A report by People Daily also claims that trouble is brewing as AP officers have vowed to revenge the killing of their colleagues if no action will be taken.

“Investigations should also reveal whether there was a fierce shootout as reported, and why the slain officer’s gun was found intact,” said an AP boss as reported by PD.

Preliminary analysis of his firearm shows it never fired any round, contradicting earlier police reports there was a fierce shootout.

Investigations are expected to establish where the officer and the taxi driver were going, and whether they were on their way to collect money from the Nigerians, as alleged.

Critical in the investigations is whether the officers were justified in using such force, by firing about 20 times.
