Flying Coffin: Fly540’s incompetence is open for everyone to see

Fly540 airline has been in the news for all the wrong reasons and it is now apparent that the airline doesn’t care about the safety of Kenyan at all.

Apart from the crash that killed Kenyans a couple of years ago, the airline has had more mishaps that have been covered up.

Sources say that Don Smith, Fly540 CEO, often cuts corners in terms of servicing planes.

An anonymous email to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority shared below, reveals the extent to which the airline puts Kenyans in danger.

Hello Madam

Hoping you are well, my question to our regulator is how many irregularities or illegalities will FLY540 get away with?

We understand during their recent AOC audit the CRJ crew was grounded due to lapsed training on type and for this I commend the regulator as this is the right way if crew haven’t done the required training they shouldn’t be flying.

However to our recent knowledge the CRJ has been flying with freelance pilots whose training records need to be checked. Furthermore the aircraft left for a charter flight to Kigali via Maputo and the first officer on that flight hasn’t flown the CRJ for over three years let alone the last time she did training on type.

All this was known by the chief pilot Nimit Patel and with complete disregard to regulations authorized that flight and crew. The CRJ 5Y-BXC is in deplorable state it has multiple snags yet still flying and with an airworthiness certificate.

No autopilot (MEL 3days but unoperational for over a year) No FMS (No Go) No APU ( MEL 10days but been us for two years) One reverser only Cracked windshield

All these snags have been cleared on the tech log yet nothing has been fixed. The chief pilot even threatened to force one of the grounded first officers to fly lying to him that he was cleared by the KCAA.

We need the regulator to look into all of this as a matter of urgency before we have an incident. The aircraft lands back in Nairobi on Thursday 25th early morning most likely. Flight crew are Captain Waweru Thuku and first officer Sabina Ngumo.

These are but a few questions we have to the regulator.
Thanks
