Speculations are all over that Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga whose term expires in 2022 could run for the Alego-Usonga seat parliamentary currently held by the outspoken Samuel Atandi.
Rasanga’s critics have mocked the idea arguing that the governor has performed dismally to dream to of another political office.
But the plan is sending other aspirants of the same seat to the drawing board, including the incumbent.
Hon. Samuel Atandi who is now officially ‘besieged’ has accused Rasanga of attacking his base by presiding over secret meetings held at night.
He accused the governor of holding clan meetings at night when he should be uniting the entire county.
Rasanga’s communication director Oscar Wambiya downplayed the issue as pundits foresee a chaotic affair with the governor’s entry.
The controversial governor already has his men on the ground collecting views of the electorate before the official announcement is made.
The move to go for the parliamentary seat is an avenue to get to the ministerial position should BBI report be adopted.
The recently launched Building Bridges and Initiative report proses that cabinet ministers may be appointed from the parliament.
Rasanga has become a sharp critic of Atandi who has accused of launching premature campaigns to malign his leadership.
The governor has publicly asked why Atandi is not comfortable with him visiting his clan, accusing him of being clueless and backward.
“Let him deliver and stop dragging me into his failures as an MP,’’ Rasanga said.
But observer point that the people are not ready for Rasanga leadership despite Atandi’s underperformance. Rasanga is badly tainted by corruption allegations.
His candidature also threatens to destroy his relationship Martin Otieno alias Mijesh.
Otieno is his close ally who has also announced his bid to unseat Atandi and is already receiving a positive reception on the ground.
Others eying the seat include Omondi Mulwan, Jacqueline Oduol, Usonga MCA Sylvester Madialo, and former Embakasi East MP John Ogutu.
Rasanga is in the radar of the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission and may be nabbed anytime.
