Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that he will meet former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, August 3, as opposition leaders continue consultations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, July 30, alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and members of the Linda Mwananchi brigade, Kalonzo said the meeting with Uhuru is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and unity within opposition ranks.
The Wiper leader disclosed the planned engagement while dismissing claims that he had held secret talks with President William Ruto during his recent visit to Tanzania.
Kalonzo said his trip involved engagements in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, insisting that he remains committed to the opposition cause.
“I was in Zanzibar after having a breakfast meeting with editors on Tuesday morning. Yesterday I took a boat from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam. I was leaving Dar this morning at 5. I want to assure all the citizens of this country that I will be the last man to drive Ruto out,” Kalonzo said.
He also dismissed videos circulating online that appeared to show him visiting State House, describing them as fabricated.
“When we saw those videos of you in State House, we were very shocked, but I told Kenyans, these are false stories. Our stand is that we are going to be with the people,” he said.
The opposition leader maintained that he would not work with President Ruto, saying their political contest would be determined through the 2027 General Election.
“I want to tell Ruto, please stop imagining that Kalonzo Musyoka can ever join you. We will meet at the ballot,” he stated.
Kalonzo further revealed that he had written to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi in his capacity as Azimio party leader, protesting recent changes in parliamentary leadership that saw Edwin Sifuna lose his position as minority deputy whip.
He described the changes as an unfair move targeting the opposition leadership in Parliament.
“The way they rushed these changes to remove Edwin Sifuna as a minority deputy whip was simply an unfortunate conspiracy,” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader claimed the country had entered an election period and accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of becoming increasingly concerned as political activities intensify ahead of 2027.
“We enter the election year in August. We have no time, and this is why Ruto has panicked together with his team,” he claimed.
Kalonzo also urged opposition supporters to remain united, expressing confidence that the coalition could replicate what he termed as a “2002 moment” — a reference to the opposition unity that ended KANU’s long rule during the 2002 General Election.
The planned meeting with Uhuru comes as opposition leaders continue holding consultations on possible strategies, partnerships and alliances ahead of the next presidential contest.
