KCPE Candidate Gives Birth Before Maths Paper

A class eight candidate sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in Tharaka Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County has given birth today morning minutes before sitting for her Mathematics paper.

However, the young mother is said to be in stable condition and will sit for her exams from Marimanti Hospital where she is admitted.

Area Education Director Salecio Maringe says the candidate will continue to write her exam from the hospital.

She is among the 2.5million pupils in primary schools both candidates for KCPE and Grade Six pupils will today morning sit for their national exams.

A total of 1,287,597 Grade Six candidates will be assessed in their inaugural Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) while 1,244,188 KCPE candidates will write down their final exams beginning today morning.

There are also 884,263 Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates sitting for their exams bringing the total number of candidates for the three national exams to 3.4milion.

Cases of early pregnancies are on the rise particularly in Kajiado County where 124 expectant girls from will sit for this year’s national exams beginning today.

Ten heavily pregnant girls will be sitting for their KPSEA exams, while 28 and 86 others will be sitting for their KCPE and Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) respectively.
