Kenya is deepening cooperation with Malaysia in a bid to build stronger tourism ties and attract more visitors from Southeast Asia.

This follows productive talks held between the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, and the Malaysian High Commissioner to Kenya, Amb. Ruzaimi Mohamad.
The meeting focused on practical steps that both countries can take to make travel easier and to open new doors for cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and visitor movement.
One of the key topics discussed was the upcoming launch of direct AirAsia flights between Nairobi and Kuala Lumpur.
These non-stop routes are expected to make travel between the two countries more accessible, faster, and budget-friendly — supporting both tourism and trade.
In the coming weeks, the Ministry will also be involved in the Diplomats and Expatriates Golf Tournament, taking place on 3rd May 2025 at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.
The tournament is expected to draw global participants and content creators with large online audiences.
The Ministry plans to use this opportunity to present Kenya’s golf courses and nature-based attractions to international viewers.
The goal is to place the country more prominently on the global map as a go-to location for sports tourism and outdoor activities.
To make this a reality, the Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with the Malaysian High Commission to host invited digital creators from ten Southeast Asian countries — member states of the ASEAN regional bloc, which Malaysia currently chairs.
These creators will be given access to Kenya’s most renowned attractions such as national parks, beaches, cultural centers, and heritage museums.
The aim is for them to document and share their experiences online, introducing new audiences to what Kenya has to offer.
In the spirit of continued cooperation, Kenya is also preparing to take part in tourism and travel exhibitions set to be held in Malaysia in September 2025.
This participation is expected to open more marketing channels, strengthen partnerships, and attract interest from tour operators, agencies, and visitors from across Asia.
Through this growing relationship, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is pursuing new ways to support the sector, promote visibility in new regions, and encourage repeat visits from travelers looking for nature, culture, and adventure.
