By Resident of Narok
As the covid-19 pandemic rages globally, shaking even the superpowers, and with numbers of positive cases increasing immensely each 24hrs count down, every leadership is expected to show extra leadership in protecting his/her people.
It would be unfortunate that some of our leaders take advantage of the situation and engage in looting sprees for the money allocated for fighting the spread of this contagion. Everyone is putting in some efforts to prevent the spread of this pandemic and as such, I would to share my reservations on our county preparedness and seriousness in protecting our people.
- The Narok county referral hospital (NCRH) has its former private wing, including the chairman office, being turned into an isolation facility, with 2 tents and 8 beds with no partitions inside, hence risking the lives of those put under quarantine, just in case one of them is positive of covid-19. The facility is the middle of the hospital, risking the lives of other patients in the hospital. It’s has no any single ventilators.
- No isolation facility for health workers in case one comes into contact with a positive case of covid-19 patient.
- The screening done at border points and that at the gate of the hospital only comprises of a temperature measuring equipment and washing of hands, only 10 testing kits are available at the bathroom size laboratory at the moment. Those who have been taken for quarantine have not been even tested but were released with a clean bill of health, posing a great risk to the otherwise safe masses.
- There is a shortage of healthcare workers and the county government of narok has not employed any new workers yet other counties have done the same . The national government has already given funds for the same but the county government is still reluctant with no sign of any effort towards the same. This is very much serious such that in case of a single covid_19 case, the other operations of the hospital will come to a resounding halt.
- The ICU, which is a very essential equipment now,is not operational in NCRH. There are no the required number of nurses to handle it,no ICU specialist.
- Healthcare workers are being trained in the hospital corridors for the covid_19 pandemic preparedness, with no allowances, hence demotivating them. They only sign attendance lists for the looters to get evidence for their allocation.
- The county has already received 14 million from the national government, after taking the budget from the hospital, (7 million already used up and the other 7 million reflected on Monday so maybe it’s still available) yet nothing tangible is there to show as far as preparedness for covid_19 is concerned.
The perpetrators:
- Paul meyoki (olenkapu to Tunai) -He is the hospital chairman with no board members hence no proper following of laid down procedures.
- Sarah Ibrahim-She is the chief officer (CO) and is the main saboteur in the smooth running of the facility, she is a signatory to the said millions of money and she doesn’t even recognize any effort from the hospital management nor from Morgan siloma who is the CEC. She is the main source of frustration to the healthcare workers.
- Kevin Naite Konchori- He is the accountant and has amassed wealth in the name of his father by milking the hospital dry leaving only it to depend solely on NHIF And LINDA MAMA Funds.
Conclusively, all the rot and the lack of preparedness is a result of a sluggish, heartless and incompetent leadership from governor Samuel Tunai.
We want immediate answers.
