As the Luhya community converged to announce their new spokesperson at the much anticipated “Bhukungu 2 Declaration”, a host of politicians allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga took turns to dress down their main rivals from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) camp.
Among those who relished the opportunity was Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda who did not shy away from publicly blasting Deputy President William Ruto during the rally held on Friday afternoon.
Speaking to the residents that assembled in multitudes, Kamanda warned Ruto against referring to Raila Odinga as a “state project”.
He further reminded the DP that when it mattered the most, he fell on the wrong side of history during Kenya’s fight for democracy.
“Listen to me, I want to tell that person called William Ruto that calling Baba a project is an insult,” he began.
“When Raila was fighting for democracy in this county you (Ruto) were still in school. When Raila was fighting this country, you were busy stealing,” he shouted to the excited crowd.
Exposing his lack of experience, the veteran city politician went on to claim that Ruto has never done anything for the country to warrant him the presidential seat.
He explained that he needs to vie for the presidency at least three times before Kenyans can consider him for the coveted position.
Additionally, Kamanda spilt the beans on some of Uhuru’s future plans in regards to Raila’s fifth presidential bid.
He hinted that in the coming weeks, Kenyatta will officially join Baba’s campaign wagon in a bid to further boost his popularity in the Mt Kenya region.
“Ruto thought Mt Kenya votes were his. Raila is now there and he is enjoying huge support. Once Uhuru campaigns for Baba, he will get 80 per cent support in the region,” he said.
He also told off the DP stating that he (Ruto) does not have all the Mt Kenya votes in his basket.

In a national declaration made by Western Region Elders, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was handed over the powers to negotiate on behalf of the Mulembe Nation ahead of the 2022 polls.
During the rally at Bukhungu stadium, the Luhya community endorsed Raila Odinga in one accord as their preferred presidential candidate.
