More members of baby theft syndicate at Mama Lucy Hospital arraigned

Four more more members of the baby theft syndicate based at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital were arrested and arraigned in a Nairobi Court following a recent expose by BBC.

Dr. Musa Mohamed,Beatrice Njambi, Selina Awuor and Juliana Mbete are facing charges of child trafficking after they colluded to sell a 6 month old baby for ‘adoption’ with an of having the baby trafficked.

The four criminals also colluded with others at the Mama Lucy Hospital including CEO Dr. Emma Mutio, between May 11, 2020 and November 17, 2020 to sell three babies.

The four will join the Hospital CEO Dr.Mutio and Administrator Dr.Regina Musembi who were arrested on Tuesday together with a social worker Makallah Fred Leparan.

Investigations have revealed that the Mama Lucy Kibaki based baby theft syndicate is working with several children homes including Imani Children’s home and public hospitals in Nairobi.

The operations of the baby stealing syndicate was exposed by BBCs piece which shone the spotlight on the thriving underworld of child trafficking in Nairobi.

The Mama Lucy Kibaki based syndicate has targeted Embakasi and Umoja areas.

The expose showed how children abandoned or stolen from unsuspecting mothers are hawked off to children homes or to selfish individuals at prices ranging between Sh45,000 and Sh300, 000.
