The nationwide night curfew has been extended for another two months in the efforts to lower Covid-19 positivity rate.

In a gazette notice, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Friday extended the 10pm to 4am curfew period for 60 days.

“This Order shall apply during the hours of darkness between ten o’clock in the evening and four o’clock in the morning with effect from the 28th of May, 2021 and shall remain in effect for a period of sixty days thereof,” read part of the notice.

All public gatherings of any kind or movements have been prohibited during the curfew period.

“There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of the curfew except as shall be permitted by writing, by an officer in charge of the police in a county or a police officer in charge of the police in a division/sub-county,” the gazette notice reads.

The measures comes at a time when the Ministry of Health has warned about the fourth wave.

Kagwe called upon County Governments to enhance capacity in health facilities to deal with a possible fourth wave expected in the coming weeks.

Kagwe says the country’s current Oxygen capacity may not withstand the wave at a time the more lethal Indian variant has been reported in at least 28 persons.

“We are asking county governments to boost their oxygen capacity, to do piping at their facilities wards. Prepare with supply of oxygen beyond what we currently have,” urged Kagwe.
