The President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr Richard Ngatia is an economic hitman.
His story has been written in many blogs, revealing how the former Disc Jockey rose to head a key business lobby organization.
If not for balls of steel, the short man from Central Kenya couldn’t have reached the heights he has.
But there’s a dark side to it. Make money at the expense of others.
Ngatia who hides behinds the tag of a ‘successful businessman’ learnt the ropes early, ‘eat them raw, and don’t care about their feelings’.
In the Confessions of an Economic Hitman’, John Perkins reveals such breed of human beings.
These lot speak big words about change and in the face value, before cameras, they appear committed to the well-being of everyone and the development of the human race. However, behind the scenes, they are the saboteurs.
Ngatia, an economic saboteur is not a great manager, though he has succeeded in covering up the two deficiencies of being short and poor management through the use of cash.
In the wangles at the KNCCI over donations by benefactors, the expose’ reveals Ngatia to be more of a behind the scenes guy who sits back but uses his vast networks of deep state and looted money to control things.
Ngatia has made it possible for a non-member by virtue of non-payment of membership fees to lead the Nairobi branch. Mr Mr Geoffrey Kimani is being used by Ngatia to loot funds. The ensuing wrangles has forced Mastercard to write a letter seeking refund of Sh400 million donated to the organization.

“Mastercard has since written a protest letter to them to refund the money they ate. 400m was allocated to Entire chamber the whole country. It was being disbursed at our head office under the watch of Ngatia. The likes of kimani pocketed part of the money even before it was disbursed to poor struggling business Members. Kimani is fighting other vocal board members to leave for him so that he can swindle all the money we have brought in the account -members money”, wrote a source
Cartel by every name
Nowhere has Ngatia been so successful in the deliberate destruction of public amenity than in the medical field. His antics and those of his ilk have stifled development in Kenya’s medical sector.
Through his firm, Megascope Limited, Ngatia has been involved in almost all scandals during the reign of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
For example, the Managed Equipment Services deal sees county Govts collectively lose over Sh9 billion per year to cartels sitting in Nairobi.
Through his links and big pockets, Ngatia has made sure that tenders awarded to his firm are overpriced.
In the deal to construct hospitals by Nairobi Metropolitan Services, worth billions, Megascope positioned itself well and won the construction tender to build both Level 2 and 3 hospitals.
Some of the hospitals have been completed, this includes that in Uthiru, Kiamaiko, Ushirika and Soweto-Kayole.
In order to cut off the cartels at the Kenyatta National Referral Hospital – KNH, NMS Boss Mohammed Badi recently announced that the giant hospital will cease taking walk-in patients and only deal in referrals.
This is another ploy by Ngatia and company to send people to inexperienced nurses and doctors in the 24 level 2 and 3 hospitals. A massive opportunity to use smuggled drugs brought in through the blessings of Megascope limited.
How convenient?
Ngatia is a cartel by any name.
