Rift widening as Mt. Kenya gears to host BBI in Meru

Rift is widening between politicians from Mt Kenya counties again as they approach to host BBI rally Kinoru Stadium, Meru County as a divided house due to factional rifts on outside interests and affiliations.

There are many political undertones that have played as the leaders from the regions held meetings this week which can only point to competing political forces in the region.

BBI cracks reveal at the Narok rally

Political commentators say Saturday’s rally that is expected to bring together leaders from Nyeri, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, and Murang’a will shape  GEMA’s political landscape as the country heads to 2022 polls.

Two factors appear to be at play, one is the need for a BBI report that captures the popular aspirations of the entire country and two, the desire to have a report that will not cause cracks among the  political elites and dynasties.

It is for this second reason that the involvement and amplified role of the Opposition Chief Raila Odinga is causing discomfort in DP William Ruto’s Tanga tanga  camp. Tanga Tanga enjoys strong support from the region but a considerably good section is also with President Kenyatta.

DP Ruto and Mr Odinga are expected to share the  podium during the saturday rally but politicians allied to Ruto complain that the deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Odinga seems to be for political expediency.

Leaders from Mt Kenya East met at Kirubia Stadium in Tharaka-Nithi County on Wednesday and adopted a memorandum with a raft of resolutions that they would want adopted through the document.

They supported the establishment of an executive premier position to quell political uncertainties and divisions arising from contested presidential elections.

In Nyeri, a BBI meeting was temporarily halted as the public demanded to be given copies of the report to read as they complained that process had been hijacked by politicians.

Politicians from the region who are allied to DP Ruto had earlier on Monday complained of the same.
