Ruto: BBI should not be used to impose ‘boardroom’ leadership on Kenyans

Deputy President William Ruto has said he is comfortable with either parliamentary or presidential system of government. He also indicated that Tanga Tanga team has no problem with BBI report being subjected to a referendum or being implemented through the National Assembly.
The DP was however categorical that the leadership of the nation must be decided in a ‘boardroom’. He spoke during the Mumboa Hustlers Cup in Vihiga County.
Ruto had pointed that the supporters of BBI had a plot to paint as an enemy of the people who is opposed to popular initiatives.
It is for this reason that DP made a U-turn and is now supporting calls to implement the BBI report through the referendum that he was initially opposed to.
He differed with President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga who were for the people driven process even before the release of the report.
He is in full support of the document and said it is only Kenyans who have the power to dictate its fate. ‘’Report can take parliamentary or referendum direction depending on the will of the people’’ he added.
But he warned that it is not wise for the country to spend most its precious time reviewing the constitution after every election. The BBI report in particular, he said should not divert the country from its primary work of transforming Kenyan lives and empowering people economically.
