Safaricom has opened the third round of its annual Engineering Summit — a space built for engineers, developers, creatives, and tech supporters to exchange ideas and look ahead at how technology can change lives in East Africa.

This year’s event, themed “Charting East Africa’s Digital Destiny”, runs for three days and turns the spotlight on upcoming talent, with a focus on smarter solutions, renewable energy, and tech systems that serve people better and last longer.
According to Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa, this summit lets Safaricom engineers share their projects and meet others in tech, growing ties and knowledge with the broader innovation space.
More than 10,000 people are expected in person, with thousands more joining virtually.
The forum will feature talks by leading tech thinkers who will show how tools like AI and machine learning are shaping the future of work and life.
Sessions will be hands-on, offering room for participants to talk, plan, and learn from one another.
The summit gives space to new concepts in Kenyan and African tech, especially in areas like AI, financial tech, and smart systems.
Guests can try out virtual reality apps and games, view new solutions from partners, and interact with products built for real use cases in the field.
Mr. Ndegwa added that Safaricom plays a major part in Kenya’s digital shift, with engineers helping to build what people need.
Through programs like Safaricom Decode, the company backs developers who want to build useful tools, swap ideas, and grow tech talent.
Safaricom Decode provides a window into the company’s work, sharing practical tools and methods, while tying into national goals such as mobile finance, fairness in access, and digital growth — all working to shape Kenya’s place in tech.
