Coast Police Commander Rashid Yakub has been transferred to Nairobi. He is taking over from Philip Ndolo who has been posted to Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri as the deputy commandant.
Late last year, Yakub accused Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko of assaulting him while resisting arrest at Ikanga strip in Voi on December 6, 2019 over a Sh357 million garbage scandal.
Yakub filed an assault case against embattled Sonko but later dropped it.
The new changes announced by Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua will see Yakub serve Nairobi in the same capacity he did Mombasa.
Kiganjo Police Training College Deputy Commandant Gabriel Musa will become Coast Regional police boss.
Musau had previously served in Mombasa as the Head of Operations and many view his return to the region as efficient. He also worked as a personal assistant to at least three commissioners of police for a long.
Ndolo who now moves to the police academy has been a long serving commander in the police service having worked in North Eastern and also as the Director of Police Operations.
The changes come at a time when the have been battles and leadership wrangles at the city hall with a section of MCAs allied to Sonko plotting an ouster of Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Chaotic scenes at the County Assembly of Nairobi has forced police to beef up security at the county headquarters.
Head of Operations at Vigilance House, James Mwaniki was dispatched to the City Hall to calm chaos between MCAs after allegations that police officers at the scene were reluctant to act.
Vigilance House said the Friday changes are normal human resource exercise aimed at boosting seciurity and police operations.
