Umoja Estate Lady Suspected of Having COVID-19 Speaks Out

Emma Oduor, a lady suspected to have conducted the novel coronavirus in Umoja estate has finally aired her troubles from the government isolation center.

“I had symptoms and was taken into isolation, on account of the government caters for everything and having beeng in contact, with a positive person, self-quarantine wasn’t an option. My discharge was approved, three days prior to my actual discharge,” Emma posted on her twitter handle.

“And, I was asked to pay for those days. Then, one evening I’m given my discharge documents without the bill,so I spent the third day in the hospital which they wanted me to pay for. The time,I was evacuated into hospital, the public health officers convinced me that it was actually free of charge. Only to be hit, with reality while at the premises.” Emma added.
“You pay via paybill. They don’t take any insurance cards. Kshs.3135 for the bed and accomodation minus drugs, yet you stay in hospital eating and sleeping, it’s even worse cause you probably paid rent and had food,in your house that is rotting.”

On April 4th,  Emma Oduor (@_emma_oduor) claimed that she has the symptoms of Coronavirus but the emergency phone lines that the government had given are not going through.

“I’ve tied the hot water remedy (shower and steaming) nothing”, she wrote in a Twitter Direct Message that was shared by Lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

“This country is in total shambles and chaos, how do you expect people to pay such bills at this difficult times, how are people going to seek treatment if they are going to be given such inflated bills, why are they seeking donations from people and then not paying even the bills.” Barrack Otieno posted on twitter.
“This is very wrong and uncalled for, what is really happening, how do they expect the fight against Corona pandemic to be won, they are just nuts with their usual PR exercises, they have turned the disease to money minting exercise as usual, the government of clueless & corruption.” another user shared his opinion on what Emma and other Kenyans are going through in quarantine centers.
Yesterday, a Covid-19 patient in isolation at the Mbagathi Infectious Disease Unit in Nairobi attempted to commit suicide. The 30-year-old man was admitted on Saturday at about 6 pm to be quarantined for 14 days.Police and medics said the patient removed a florescent tube in his room which he broke and used to slit his throat. Also, the French doctor took his own life

Nurses who were checking on the patients heard him struggle and rushed to his rescue as they attended to his injuries and counseled him.

“We told him he is young and will recover. We informed him he was not the only one who is sick and that all shall be well,” said one nurse.

Police were allowed to access the scene of crime in protective gear as officials increased surveillance to ensure safety in the facility. Isolation centers have been criticized for sending shivers down the spines of many patients since they are viewed as prisons.
