A University of Nairobi School of Nursing lecturer has been arrested on suspicion of having killed her son and kept the body in her South B house for days.
Anna Hotannah Khahugan was staying with her son alone at the Kifaru Apartments in South B, according to the police.
The caretaker of the apartment, Stephen Mwangi, said a foul smell emanating from the house prompted him to peep through a window to check if all was well.
It was then he saw a body wrapped in a blanket and lying in the sitting room, and informed the police.
Detectives from the Makadara Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene but established that the house had been locked from the inside.
The police broke down the door and found the body of the 13-year-old boy, identified as Emmanuel Solomon Inyama, lying on the floor.
The body had started decomposing and police suspect it had been lying there for at least four days.
On searching the house, the mother was found hiding inside the kitchen.
The lecturer’s relatives on Thursday told the police that she had recently started showing signs of depression.
