WhatsApp rolling out new tool to manage phone space

WhatsApp is in the process of rolling out an improved storage management feature to make it more appealing to users. The new tool will allow users to bulk delete content that may be filling their phone.

“We now offer easy cleanup suggestions by bucketing both large files and media that has been forwarded many times, sorting files by size in descending order, and providing a way to preview files before deleting them,” WhatsApp said.

Users will preview media files before selecting one or multiple items to delete.

The FaceBook owned messaging platform said it will roll out the new storage management tool to it’s users worldwide this week.

Users will navigate to the new tool by going to “Settings”, then “Storage and data” and then “Manage storage”.

This development comes after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that nearly 100 billion messages are exchanged on Whatsapp everyday.

Zuckerberg spoke last week when he also revealed that they are working on a long-term infrastructure project to let people message across its family of apps.

WhatsApp has also confirmed that this feature will be rolled out to users gradually. Right now, it’s for Android users but will then roll out to iOS users in a phased manner.

Saving new Whatsapp storage on Android phones;

  • Firstly update your WhatsApp application to the latest version on Google Play Store.
  • After updating head over to the app settings and you can find the traditional ‘Storage and Data’ section.
