2022: Kieleweke’s mouthpiece to face fiery Gathaka in Nyeri Town race

As Kenya’s political landscape keeps taking shape ahead of 2022 general elections, Nyeri Town parliamentary seat that is currently held by Kieleweke mouthpiece Ngunjiri Wambugu is already attracting diminishing big wigs including ex-Nyeri Mayor Wanyaga Gathaka.

The combative former mayor has already hit the ground campaigning for Nyeri Town parliamentary while Wambugu drumming support for BBI report.

Gathaka has traversed the constituency, pinned posters, banners and fliers as he makes his efforts to solidify his support and that of the DP William Ruto who is enjoying a massive support in Nyeri.

Wambugu on the otherside does not see eye to eye with DP Ruto who is leading Tangatanga/ Hustler movements.

The combative Gathaka was first elected councillor for Gatitu ward in 2002 and later mayor.

He only served the council for one term only but he has remained relevant and influential among local opinion leaders in Nyeri.

Gathaka is adding to a long list of political heavy weights with plants to oust Hon Wambugu.

Others include former MP Esther Murugi, Samuel Wamathai, Mwangi Karanja, Kariuki wa Kabaiku, Gacheru Wabandi and Thumbi Kabai whose candidature is expected to complicate matters for many aspirants.

In October 2020, lawyer Wanyiri Kihoro sued Wanyaga Gathaka who is cousin when he sought an injunction to stop  Gathaka from changing layout and the design of a grave.

Ex-Mp Kihoro is accused him of trying to change the grave of their grandfather at Thome in Mugwathi Gatiti village.

He further accused Gathaka of proposing to carry out unquantified building works without approval from Wambugu wa Mathangani graveyard committee.
