Azimio plans to deny Kenya Kwanza strategic venue for final rally

There is a looming battle Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio La Umoja before the of the August 9, polls following reports that the two rivals have scheduled their last rally in the same venue.

Both camps are claiming rights to use Nyayo Stadium on August 6. Azimio secretary Mr. Junet Mohamed on Tuesday wrote that their coalition will hold its final rally at Nyayo Stadium which is seen as strategic and easy to access by Nairobi residents.

“As the country approaches the general election in 20 days, the Azimio team wishes to thank all Kenyans of goodwill who have turned up in their millions all over the country at meetings, rallies and in person to join in this historic journey to a fair, just, prosperous and inclusive nation,” his statement reads in part.

Junet’s statement is coming after Kenya Kwanza Alliance had also stated that their last rally will be held at the same venue. The controversy over use of strategic venues is a Jubilee thing.

President Uhuru Kenyatta applied the tactic to block Raila Odinga’s CORD from using any of the main campaign venues in Nairobi in the final run-up to March 2013 elections.

The despotic move was meant to bar stronger candidates and political outfits away from the populous capital as curtain falls on campaigns.

On June 19, Kenya Kwanza Alliance supporters and goons hired by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino clashed at the Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi, Nairobi over the use of the venue.

Scores were seriously injured including the Embakasi East UDA aspirant Francis Mureithi who is eyeing Babu Owino’s seat.

The chaotic Owino was claiming that had booked the venue moments Kayole Sub-county police commander Paul Wambugu had permitted the Kenya Kwanza Alliance to hold their rally there.

Wambugu clashed with his Embakasi-East counterpart Makau Masai who was attempting to ban any political function at the venue in favor of Babu Owino and the ODM Party.

Confusion over the of Nyayo Stadium on August 6 comes as Kenya Kwanza Alliance accuse Raila Odinga of planning to resort violence in rejection of the August 9 presidential results.

Odinga has never conceded defeat even after losing in the past five presidential contests when he is  resorted to chaos but now he believes that President Uhuru Kenyatta will him to win.

Key Azimio La Umoja coalition members including Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga revealed that the former PM will rely on the system to propel him to presidency. Odinga is facing off with Deputy President Dr. William Ruto who running on a platform to fix the debt ridden economy.
