Powerful forces involved in the Covid-19 scandal at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA ) has pulled a first one on authorities after it emerged that 25 files on the fraudulent procurement activities have gone missing.
“Files of 25 companies that supplied Covid-19 items are missing even as the government targets 80 firms in ongoing investigations into the loss of billions of shillings meant for fighting the pandemic”, Nation Africa reported .

EACC assured the Joint Senate ad hoc Committee on COVID-19 that evidence against 13 companies is being gathered. The anti-corruption agency further reiterated that investigations will take some time due to the ‘voluminous documentation involved in the supply and payment transactions.’
The commission added that it has established that the 2013 Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, the 2015 Public Procurement and Assets Disposal Act and the Public Finance Management Act, 2012 were violated by Kemsa managers.
“The investigation established criminal culpability on the part of public officials in the purchase and supply of Covid-19 emergency commodities that led to the irregular expenditure of funds,” reads an EACC report tabled at the committee and signed by chief executive Twalib Mbarak.

The Covid19Millionaires scandal goes deeper and shockingly ensnares all those that seemed champions of public good such as Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, former anti-corruption bosses, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, CAS Rachael Shebesh among others.

Senator Johnson Sakaja
Shop ‘N’ Buy, a firm associated with Sakaja was paid Sh970 million under the KEMSA Emergency Procurement for Covid-19 programme for undisclosed items/services.
Anti-corruption chief Halakhe Waqo
A company associated with former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is among those that benefited from procurement irregularities at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
Aszure Commercial Services Limited was paid Sh350 million under the KEMSA Emergency Procurement for Covid-19.
Halakhe Waqo who is the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EACC was severally mentioned by bloggers as a very corrupt guy who doesn’t hesitate to take kickbacks to go slow on investigations.
Regal Freighters received Sh270 million. It is associated with Deputy CEO of EACC.
Speaker Justin Muturi
Kenyanbulletin.com’s research also netted Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi as a beneficiary of KEMSA illegal procurement money.
Thermosystems East Africa Limited, a company associated with Muturi was paid Sh6.3 million for unspecified supplies.
Gideon Moi, Senate Sepaker Ken Lusaka, Rachael Shebesh and Sabina Chege
The Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, according to sources, owns a firm known as Tronz Ventures Limited, Panim Holdings and Escobar Kenya Limited. The former Nairobi Women Representative smiled to the bank with a Sh66 million contract.
Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, though Everywhere Distributors Limited, was paid Sh114 million.
Murang’a Women rep who is also the chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee Hon Sabina Chege received Sh140 million through a company called Meraky Health Care.
Senate speaker Ken Lusaka fronted a Somali businessman through a company called Briema Grains Stores. He shared the loot of Sh167 million.
