The Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Intelligence Service sleuths are on the case of a rogue roads contractor Ramesh Kurhi Vishram.
Ramesh’s construction firm Cementers Limited had carried out shoddy works that threaten to detail the vision of the prestigious and outstanding white elephant The Nairobi Expressway.
Cementers Limited was given a contract to work on a road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area but the work which started 3 years ago seems to have stalled.
Only 30 per cent of Likoni Road has been completed leading to losses by some firms that use the road to access their premises.
Notable among firms that have complained about Ramesh’s work include, British America Tobacco.
Bribed managers
It is not the first time that Ramesh is in hot soup. His firm is known for delaying road and construction works or carrying out shoddy works.
Ramesh has been heard boasting how he has pocketed Engineer Jacinta Mwangi, a director of Urban Roads Planning and Design, Engineer Jackson Magondu and Engineer Benson Kariuki in charge of Nairobi, hence that nothing can be done.
The above mentioned top engineers at KURA are on DCI radar according to sources.
Ramesh’s close association with Deputy President William Ruto is also being monitored.
Sources say DP Ruto’s PA Farouk Kibet has often been seen collecting millions of dollars from city tycoons including Ramesh, to be used to fund UDA Party campaigns.
Ramesh’s companies are also blamed for the poor structural integrity of some building in the city leading to their collapse.
