Family member reveals what Mzee Moi is ailing from that saw him rushed to Nairobi Hospital

Former President Daniel Arap Moi was on Monday confirmed to have been re-admitted at the Nairobi Hospital.

The stay at the hospital comes barely two weeks after he was taken to the hospital for what his handlers termed as a routine check-up.

A family member, however, spoke to reporters revealing that the Nyayo era president was rushed to the hospital on Saturday and immediately placed on life-support machines due to breathing complications.

The relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, further conveyed that the ex-president’s condition stabilized on Sunday and he was taken off the machines.

He was said to be getting better on Monday under the close attention of his personal physician Dr David Silverstein.

Other family members did not appreciate media probing of the patriarch’s medical condition and simply alluded to his age and the complications that come with aging.

On Monday, his press secretary Lee Njiru issued a formal statement to the media saying that Mzee Moi was still at the hospital for a “routine medical check-up”.

“It is true [that] Mzee Moi went to Nairobi Hospital today (Monday) but it [was for] a routine medical check-up. It is prudent and advisable that everybody should go for medical check-up, so Mzee Moi went for a medical check up.

“He is expected to go back home but that will be at the discretion of his personal physician; he will make the final decision,” Mr Njiru stated.

The family of the second Kenyan President has remained tight-lipped about his life away from the public, issuing generic statements during key occasions.
