Yesterday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji announced through a statement that he has received the file from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) containing details of the investigations into the looting of Covid-19 funds at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA)

We at Kenyanbulletin.com have already exposed the people who benefited from the scandal to the tune of Sh4.5 billion.

The DPPs file is bigger and targets the looters of Sh7.8 billion.

“Pursuant to section 35 of the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003 as read with section ii (d) of the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission Act, 2011, I have today, the 18th of September, 2020 received from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC),the duplicate inquiry file on the irregular procurement and fraudulent payments in relation to the purchase and supply of covid-19 emergency commodities at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) that led to irregular expenditure of Kshs.7.8 Billion, for perusal and directions. Consequently, I have appointed a team of senior experienced prosecutors to undertake an independent and comprehensive review of the inquiry file and submit their findings to me, after which I will make a decision and inform the Public of the progress within the next 14 days”, DPP’s statement said

KEMSA lost more than what the DPP is investigating. In an earlier, expose on NTV, a whistleblower stated that overall, about Sh43 billion of funds earmarked to fight the Covid-19 virus could not be accounted for.

“The current figures we have at KEMSA for money that cannot be accounted for; is actually at Sh43 billion”, Dr Godwins Agutu, the Network Against Corruptions (NAAC) CEO told Denis Okari in August.

A team of senior prosecutors at the office of the DPP are currently reviewing the file.

Kenyan Bulletin has so far covered the heist under the following titles.
