Thirdway Alliance’s Fredrick Okango warn Kenyans to be very careful with the much hyped BBI

Politicians leading the constitutional amendment push want to force specific changes on Kenyans, Thirdway Alliance Secretary-General Frederick Okango has said.

He terms this the reason behind the push to have the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report taken back to Kenyans, yet its suggestions were acquired from the same people.

According to Okango, whose party is pushing for separate changes through the Punguza Mizigo initiative, the plan is to factor in specific proposals not included in the first report.

He says that the plot is most likely to convince Kenyans to make specific proposals, which they consider good for them (the politicians) and not the Kenyans they purport to be fighting for.

“They have not seen any tsunami in it and now want to take it back to the citizens to force them to embrace specific changes. Citizens must take caution because this issue is all about forcing changes on them (Wameona hakuna tsunami sasa wanataka kuirudisha kwa wananchi ili wawalazimishe eti hiki ndicho mnachohitaji. Wananchi wajihadhari na mambo haya maana ni ya kuwalazimishia mabadiliko),” he said on Wednesday night.

Okango made the remarks in an interview on Radio Jambo’s Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday night.

He dismissed remarks from the pro-BBI supporters that it will be the silver bullet against the challenges Kenyans are currently facing.

According to him, Kenyans need a solution to corruption menace and theft of public money by public officers, which, according to him, the BBI doesn’t address fully.

“The solution to our problems cannot be the BBI. Our problem is corruption and thieving leaders, why doesn’t the BBI address this? (Suluhisho ya shida zetu haiwezi kuwa BBI. Shida yetu ni ufisadi na viongozi wezi, mbona BBI haijashughulikia hawa?),” he posed.

However, the BBI report suggests that state officers mentioned in any case of theft step aside to give room for investigations, as part of its anti-corruption steps.
