Mochache: Kenya’s universal health coverage agenda on course – KBC

The Government is working towards having a sustainable National Insurance Scheme that aims to progressively provide health care to all Kenyans.

This will be done through a sustainable out-put based financing insurance model that will be managed by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Health Principal Secretary (PS), Susan Mochache, noted that it is important that there are strategic alliances, as outlined in the Kenya Health Sector Strategic Plan (KHSSP) 2018-2023, for the realization of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Agenda.

The PS  made the remarks, today, at the NSSF building in Nairobi, during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (SDSP), and National Hospital Insurance Fund on The Systematic Access of National Safety Net Programme Beneficiaries to NHIF.

PS Mochache noted that the signing of the MoU would go a long way to play a great role in the realisation of UHC.

“I acknowledge the critical role the collaborative efforts with the SDSP that have made this occasion possible, showing that the government recognizes the importance of this MOU,” she said.

The PS urged all parties to work towards achieving the objectives set of the MOU.

During the briefing, PS Mochache noted in order to achieve the UHC the government is  supporting the Health Insurance Subsidy Programme for the Elderly (70+), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCS) and People Living With Severe Disability (PLWSDs), in four counties through, Edu Afya Medical Insurance and  Linda Mama programmes.
