Okecc is strumming it and equally amazing on decks and mic

His sense of fashion is artistically inspired; even without his signature guitar on his back, anyone can associate Oketch with art, music. Born Lucas Oketch, his genre, he says, is a collection of different kinds of music; benga, soul, RnB, afrofusion, you name it and picture the sort this budding artist and record producer is.
He is young with class, a signature that is only ‘Okecc’, may be it’s because he is from Nairobi’s Kariobangi South that is K South. Home of the legendary rapper Abbass, Bamboo, great sportsmen and entertainers are from there. It is just rich with art, great records have been recorded and produced in K South and the neighborhood’s history with art is still deeply rooted.
Rapper Juliani claims he is from Dandora but really that ‘chuom’ is in Civil Servant’s estate and Civil Servants is in K South. Whatever the case, many come and go but K South is still producing more; we could be talking more not just Okecc.
Gachagua who plays with Bensoul is from K South, Mandela of Sarabi Band, Poet Teardrops, Rapcha tha Sayantist, Zico who is the current coach of KCB and many more the list is long and the statement is home, K South could be the home of art.
But Okecc like most of his peers here is super talented; he plays acoustic, electric and occasionally bass. He is a solo artists but working with many bands and artists as a producer.
After we checked into their studio, he quickly opened a new project he was working on with Just Muzick, his beat crafting skills are on top, Okecc is possibly crafting a sound that should define his signature.
It’s kinda ‘vintage’, classic and modern or urban at the same. It’s a thing with many artists who play instruments but Okecc is more, this guy sings and his diary is carefully planned his art, talent or career growing. He learns like every day and grows like every day, he says.
Not many guys multi task like this from writing, performing and producing. He produced his own, ‘Nishajua’ single. It set his foot on the musical path, gained him respect among his peers and expanded his circles.
Only a good musician does a song like that, its acoustic feel and the great vocals should penetrate to define the sounds of this century.
Because it takes a lot to sound good and artistic like that, many young singers boast of childish and dirty content today but Okecc writes like a mature guy and has been on serious stages that command and respect. Only talent and discipline put you there.
‘Okecc Luke Experience’ at the Michael Joseph Centre last April was a great event. It had many opening acts and premiered many upcoming acts. He rocked the revelers and kept them on the floor for a whole hour. From planning to how the flows of things at the event were, the feel that he was the man of the night was alive and when he lived it on stage.
Mainstream media is not very fair, good music like this struggle to get and stay in chats, not widely reported and the events and festivals they play in are not hyped too. Interviews are conducted by comedians cum presenters who play vulgar and foreign club bangers.
Okecc is not bothered by this, he says may be things were set to be like that push artists of genres to let passion and talent jump them over these obstacles. Situation will change and his time will soon come.
He has serious works in the pipes just waiting for appropriate time to release but Julie Brenda’s ‘Nakusubiri’s video where he is featured should be out before valentine.
